Kansas City — Over the past seven days, Sen. Eric Schmitt has offered a clear view into his actual priorities: not the concerns of Missourians, but advertising the most extreme policies of the Trump administration. Three moments stand out.

Screaming at a witness over Trump’s DOJ – July 15–16

During the confirmation hearing for Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Schmitt used his time to berate former DOJ pardon attorney Liz Oyer, telling her, “You have no credibility to talk about Todd Blanche. You have none.” Oyer has said she was fired by Blanche after refusing pressure from Trump allies to help restore the gun rights of actor Mel Gibson, who lost them following a domestic violence conviction. Rather than engage with that allegation, Schmitt spent his time attacking the witness — a pattern of protecting the administration first and asking questions never.

Floating annexation over “radical mullahs” – July 16

The same week, Schmitt said he supports annexing Greenland, reasoning that Denmark might be “run by radical mullahs” in 50 years. He wasn’t just parroting the annexation talk, he dressed it up with an Islamophobic hypothetical to make it sound like a national security argument instead of what it is: land grab rhetoric borrowed straight from a doctored image the President posted two days earlier.

Endorsing “snipers” conspiracy theories about the left – July 21

Most recently, when far-right commentator Benny Johnson claimed the left is “training” to “stage a mass slaughter event,” Schmitt didn’t push back — he agreed, adding that “the left” is “drawing federal officers out and then they have snipers.” This is not the language of a senator engaged with the real, material concerns of Missouri families. It’s the language of someone chasing attention in right-wing media by validating conspiracy theories without any evidence.

What it means

Taken together, these seven days show a senator who is not focused on the cost of groceries, health care, or housing in Missouri. Instead, he’s spent his time screaming at witnesses on behalf of the administration, floating hostile takeovers of former allied countries, and echoing baseless claims about political violence from the left. It’s a preview of where his priorities reside — and it isn’t with the needs of the people he represents.
