WAGNER WATCH: Wagner’s Epstein Response is Weak, Lacks Commitment to Transparency

Progress MO released the following statement by Communications Director Abbey Schoenrade in response to U.S. Representative Ann Wagner’s (MO-2) written statement to The Missourian following public criticism over her silence on the federal Jeffrey Epstein investigation:

After weeks of public pressure and silence, Rep. Ann Wagner finally issued a statement on the Epstein investigation, but it fell short of real accountability. Calling Epstein “evil” isn’t enough. Survivors and her constituents deserve more than cookie-cutter soundbites and political deflection.

What Wagner didn’t say speaks volumes. She made no mention of whether she’ll support ongoing efforts in Congress to investigate the Epstein files further, including the House discharge petition that would provide for the public release of documents, records and communications related to the Epstein investigation. She often claims to fight for survivors, but when given the chance to act, she disappears.

If Ann Wagner truly supports justice for survivors, she needs to go beyond words. The next steps for her are clear: sign the petition, support the investigation and show up for Missourians she claims to represent, not high-profile men and leaders in her party who are accused of abuse and other heinous crimes.
