KCTV5 Highlights Community Voices, Impact of Medicaid Cuts at “Stop the Billionaire Giveaway” Bus Tour

KCTV5 featured powerful community voices from the national “Stop the Billionaire Giveaway” bus tour in Kansas City, an event organized by Progress MO, Fair Share America and Unrig Our Economy.

The Kansas City stop emphasized the urgent impact of the recently enacted federal reconciliation budget bill on Missourians and highlighted requests from health care workers who are seeking clarity from elected officials, including Kat Stewart, a certified nursing assistant and member of SEIU Healthcare.

The bill, signed into law by the president on the Fourth of July, includes significant cuts to Medicaid that are raising alarms among health care workers and patient advocates. The cuts are expected to drastically impact working families and threaten the stability of health care facilities nationwide, especially those serving rural populations. Health care workers across the state are demanding clarity and accountability from politicians regarding how these cuts will impact essential services and patient care.

“The biggest Medicaid budget cut I’ve ever seen in my life,” Stewart said. “Are you gonna put something in the place of this? Are you gonna do something to help these people? What about the facilities that Medicaid funds?”

Stewart’s direct challenge to politicians underscores the urgent need for concrete solutions to maintain access to essential health care services for Missouri families.
