Communications Organizer
The Communications Organizer is a full-time position responsible for furthering our work to amplify the voices of Missourians across the state. This role involves working with the Progress MO team and groups in the progressive ecosystem to recruit and develop local storytellers and inform voters about laws and policies affecting their lives.
The successful Communications Organizer will craft and oversee regional correspondents and the stories of real Missourians on a variety of platforms, including traditional and social media, to challenge conservative propaganda in the media and ensure that progressive perspectives are heard.
Core Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and support individuals involved in or seeking to join the progressive ecosystem across Missouri.
- Build and maintain relationships with new and existing stakeholders and partner organizations across Missouri.
- Work independently and collaborate with partner organizations to identify and collect compelling stories and educate voters about laws and policies affecting Missourians to be featured in events, communications materials, and paid media.
- Constantly look for opportunities to engage with voters where they are and utilize creative tactics to get people engaged.
- Support the Progress MO team in executing earned media events, creating videos, op-eds, social media posts, letters to the editor and other forms of content to lift up the voices of storytellers in Missouri.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:
- Strong instincts for identifying and capitalizing on emerging stories
- Passions for justice, workers’ rights, healthier communities and an economy where all families can thrive
- Ability to create compelling messages around both issues and candidates
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects, sudden deadlines, and curveballs
- Strong interpersonal communication skills in person, on the phone, and in writing.
Reports to: Executive Director
Based in: Missouri
Start date: As soon as possible
Travel: Some in-state travel will be necessary
Salary: $65,000, depending on experience
Benefits: Medical & dental insurance stipend; paid time off policy that includes holidays, annual leave, family leave, and sick leave.
